Court Services Branch is responsible for the delivery of all court administration services in British Columbia.

These consist of registry and trial support for the Provincial Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, and the provision and maintenance of courthouse facilities.

The Branch is responsible for supporting timely and equitable access to the court system. As a servant of the court, it is responsible for providing administrative services to the judiciary. Court Administrators throughout the Branch fulfil this mandate in a manner that is respectful of an independent judiciary.


The Registry Administrator position administers all Provincial / Supreme Court programs and operations associated with the court administration program in the satellite location.

This includes the provision of technical, administrative, financial and court recording services.

The position requires an appointment as a Deputy District Registrar of the Supreme Court, Registrar of Small Claims and a Justice of the Peace.

The Registry Administrator reports to the Sr.

Manager, Court Administration or Manager, Court Administration and is responsible for planning, organizing and administering all registry support functions in the court registry.


The position:

  • Maintains contact with court registry staff to provide technical assistance, file and check court documents for content, accuracy and compliance with Court requirements. To establish court dates for court documents.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with members of the Judiciary, Police, Crown Counsel, and Corrections Branch staff to exchange information.


Maintains contact with members of the legal profession, filing agents and members of the public to provide procedural information and direction, checks documents for accuracy and compliance with Court requirements and responds to general inquiries.


Job Requirements:


  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years related clerical/office experience or experience equivalent to 2 years working with Court Registry related documentation and processes.
  • Must have experience using computers and software programs (e.g. Windows, Word, Excel, JUSTIN/CEIS, Civil and Criminal electronic tracking systems.)
  • Must have or be able to obtain an appointment as a Justice of the Peace in the Province of British Columbia.
  • Must have or be able to obtain certification as a District Registrar of Supreme Court of BC and Registrar of Small Claims Court.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience within the Court System (Court Administration Services)
  • One (1) year experience as a Deputy District Registrar
  • One (1) year experience as a Justice of the Peace
  • Supervisor/leadership/team lead experience

PROVISOS:

  • Must pass a criminal record review and a police records check.
  • Must travel to Courtenay.
  • Will be required to work flexible hours.
  • Will be required to work overtime.
  • Will be required to work in other areas of Court Services Branch.
  • Will be required to work on a rotational schedule as late Justice of the Peace within the registry.
  • Will be required to participate in continuous learning and development
