Position Summary:


Reports to Assistant Manager, Private Care or designate, the incumbent is responsible for supporting recreational, leisure and educational programs in accordance with resident's abilities, strengths, interests and former lifestyles.


Main Duties:

  • Provide quality leisure and recreational programs to residents.
  • Assist in development of quality leisure and recreation programs that suit to the abilities, strengths, needs and interests of residents.
  • Organize, facilitate and participate in activities and games to meet residents' social and psychological needs as well as social interaction with residents.
  • Implement and lead morning exercises and afternoon programs and activities, encourage residents to participate.
  • Develop weekly program schedule with a variety of individual, small and large group activities, active and passive, leisure, recreation and therapeutic activities.
  • Perform daily set up of newspaper stands and room set up for games and activities.
  • Plan and decorate facility for special events and holidays; take down decoration material after the events.
  • Assist in development and implementation of music and art programs.
  • Seek appropriate musical groups/performers from the community to enhance residents' leisure life.
  • Assist residents walking with mobility aids to enhance their mobility strength.
  • Work oneonone or small group basis with residents on activities;
  • Assist and escort residents to group activities according to resident's interests and abilities;
  • To supervise volunteers when implementing activities;
  • To ensure accurate documentation of recreation and leisure services for the residents;
  • Other job duties might be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required;
  • Postsecondary program in Business Administration, Recreation and Leisure studies or related field an asset.
  • 1 year of administrative experience;
  • Experience in working with seniors an asset.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team;
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail;
  • Intermediate computer skills and working experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment;
  • Good problemsolving skills and time management skills;
  • Proficiency in Cantonese and English, both oral and written; Mandarin an asset;
  • Available to work weekends occasionally
