Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Master's degree in a Health-Related/Social Sciences/ Communications/Education or related field required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum two (2) years' experience with qualitative, quantitative and survey research methodology including analysis required.
- Two years of experience as project coordinator preferred.
- Experience working with children and youth in research and a commitment to the engagement of young people in research required.
- Experience working with families in research and a commitment to the engagement of families in research required.
- Experience with designing qualitative interview guides required including individual and focus group guides required.
- Experience in the photovoice process including data collection and analysis.
- Experience in ecomaps including data collection and analysis.
- Experience in designing and conducting survey research.
- Experience in integrated knowledge translation engaging multiple audiences and users of knowledge in the research process required.
- Experience in training and supervising data collectors.
- Experience in running social media campaigns for research.
- Sound understanding of complex social issues and personal commitment to human-rights based approach to research required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Highly competent with MS Office, qualitative and quantitative data management and analysis software required.
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills are required.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others is required.
- Good organizational skills required.
- Must be able to work within time and budget constraints.
- Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential; with academic and non-academic individuals.
- Ability and willingness to learn new processes and techniques required.
- Access to vehicle and willingness to travel, depending on public health guidelines.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities and provides updates and progress reports to members of the research team and stakeholders.
- Assists in the recruitment, selection, training, and orientation of staff in qualitative and quantitative data collection methods.
- Assigns and directs work of research support staff, ensuring deadlines are met and research protocol and regulatory requirements of the U of M and funding agencies are followed.
- Responsible for recruitment of participants and obtaining consent from them.
- Responsible for data collection, including booking appointments with participants. Collect data for research projects (includes, but not limited to, conducting open-ended individual interviews, focus group interviews, participant observation, administering questionnaires, and collecting additional information from selected records).
- Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, preparing periodic and ad hoc reports as required by investigators, administrators and funding agencies.
- Contributes and completes, as needed, to research analysis, including interpretation and preparation of research reports, publications, and presentations, as well as assisting with writing of grant proposals; may include literature searching, using a reference management system (e.g. Zotero), and reviewing.
- Organizes and participates in meetings (e.g., research team, project liaison committee, and dissemination committee meetings).
- Meets regularly with PI to discuss study progress, issues and status, and quality of data collection.
- Prepares and processes all forms and accounts related to the grant, including monitoring, expenditures.
- Prepares documents for ethical review and assists with preparation of reports and publications and develops materials, e.g, posters, slideshows, etc., for presentations of projects/research.
- Maintaining data files in accordance with ethical guidelines.
- Perform other related duties to the research projects as assigned.
