The Manitoba Developmental Centre (MDC) within Department of Families, is an accredited residential care facility providing specialized services to individuals with an intellectual disability.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have a current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Manitoba (CDM)

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition, dietetics or related area from an accredited Canadian university program or the approved equivalent accredited by Dietitians of Canada and the completion of an approved dietetic internship program
  • Experience in clinical nutrition processes including nutrition assessments, diet reviews and referrals, patient interviews and gathering patients' relevant medical/surgery and social history/cognitive function history.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate with team members and families
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently under mínimal supervision
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to plan and deliver nutrition education and counselling to individuals or groups
  • Knowledge of interpreting biochemical data, medical tests and procedures, relevant medications and anthropometric measurements such as weight, height, BMI etc.
  • Knowledge related to enteral feeding
  • Knowledge related to dysphagia assessments

Desired:

  • Knowledge of intellectual disability
  • Member of Dietitians of Canada
  • Verbal and written communication in French

Duties:


The Dietitian is responsible for assessment, co-ordination, clinical supervision and evaluation of services, which focus on providing therapeutic nutrition requirements.

The incumbent will ensure that therapeutic interventions delegated to service providers/support networks is consistent with professional standards.

The Dietitian will also plan and develop centre-wide seasonal cycle menus providing a variety of foods that are resident centered and nutritionally sound.

This position involves participation in the Centre's Performance and Quality Improvement Program and the accreditation process and includes making recommendations to improve the structure and process of the program service delivery model.

This is a professional position with centre wide scope, which requires maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with a diversity of recipients, service providers (executive, professional, para professional) and support networks.

The incumbent must model the principles and practices of person-centered care, participate in professional activities, set a visible example for constructive co-operation across disciplines and demonstrate respect for the dignity and rights of recipients.
