Hours of work:
Rotating 8 hour shifts between 6:30 a.m. and 11 p.m.


Job purpose


The Resettlement and Housing Support Worker is responsible for assessing temporary resident individuals and families' needs, and providing support, guidance, information, and referrals to services to help them to resettle and be housed.


Using Trauma-informed and Gender-Equity approaches, the Resettlement and Housing Support Worker provides housing support to Durham Ukrainian Humanitarian Response Project eligible individuals and families.

The successful incumbent will also provide support to the Resettlement and Housing teams with data tracking and administrative duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Determines the needs of the clients and the support that is appropriate for each individual client
  • Conduct holistic client intake, assessment and case planning services, utilizing a clientcentered, antioppression and strengthbased approach to assist them in securing permanent housing
  • Conduct client follow up, referral and advocacy
  • Meet with clients, assess and determine the appropriate housing response to a household's request for support services and accommodations to resolve their housing needs
  • Assertively engage with clients to secure housing, secure income assistance if necessary, assist with leases, deposits, setting up utilities, and signing of leases
  • Provide referrals and resources to individuals or families, assist with problem solving and address immediate needs
  • Act as a resource to, and advocate for individuals and families
  • Collect and display accurate resource information on housing advocacy for clients
  • Engage in activities to reach isolated Durham Ukrainian Humanitarian Response Project eligible households/individuals and atrisk families
  • Assist with group sessions and preparation of presentations on settlement and housing related topics
  • Assist the Resettlement team with case management and providing needs assessment, services and information referrals
  • Maintain client database to allow for updated information to better assist client needs; prepare reports regarding services used and clients' interactions with the services as necessary
  • Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of the Durham Ukrainian Humanitarian Response Project to meet identified needs
  • Develop and maintain statistical reports as required
  • Attend and support internal and/or external meetings and events where applicable
  • Participate in promoting a positive workplace culture through agency committee membership and departmental activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
