    JOB OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the program manager, support the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Connect to Change project.

Connect to Change seeks to reach and support Indigenous peoples who use commercial tobacco to make a quit attempt and to incorporate physical activity related healthy behaviors.

While traditional or ceremonial tobacco plays a significant and positive role in many Indigenous cultures, commercial tobacco and vaping use has serious health impacts. Smoking rates among Canada's Indigenous populations are, on average, twice as high as those of non-Indigenous Canadians.

The successful candidate will come with strong experience with, and understanding of First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and urban Indigenous histories and cultures, and health/socio-economic issues and needs.

This position will contribute to the health recommendations in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action that calls for the establishment of measurable goals to identify and close the gaps in health outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in consultation with Indigenous peoples, and will be grounded in the rights of Indigenous peoples to live in dignity, and maintain and strengthen their own cultures and traditions as outlined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
