Farm Maintenance Technician

Shift/Time:


  • Day, 8hour day, with a schedule that can be different from week to week based on the requirements of the farm.
  • Rotating oncall weekends

Hourly Rate:
$24.20ph

You will be part of our farm team, where we pride ourselves on our friendly, relaxed, and collaborative work culture.

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of poultry farm equipment and the grounds

This would include:

  • Maintaining feed and water systems, motors, pumps, conveyors, egg packers, ventilation systems, and hydraulic equipment
  • Conducting minor building, plumbing, electrical, and painting repairs
  • General property upkeep (e.g. landscaping, pest control) and structural maintenance
  • Diagnosing mechanical issues and determining if an outside contractor is required
  • Anticipate maintenance issues through daily monitoring of farm equipment and machine operations. Take corrective action to reduce or eliminate downtime
  • Organize and prioritize work orders
  • Organize equipment and building materials, and maintain parts inventory
  • Occasionally supervise a crew for larger farm maintenance tasks, including managing daytoday activities and scheduling
  • Participate in the alarm call rotation and the weekend farm supervision rotation
  • Follow our farm protocols and programs (workplace safety, security, animal welfare, food safety, onfarm biosecurity)
  • Other farm duties as requested

Work Environment

  • Physical activity in a farm environment (both inside and outside of barns) such as pushing and pulling, crouching, bending, reaching, as well as some climbing and working at heights
  • Work in barns can be noisy, odorous, hot, humid, and dusty
  • Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 kg.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledgeable in one of these areas: Metal fabrication/welding, construction techniques, carpentry, general construction, electrical, equipment maintenance
  • Experience operating tools and equipment
  • Elevated work platform training is an asset
  • Able to perform physical tasks that require strength, coordination, dexterity, and lifting of objects
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new skills
  • Able to show up to work on time and ready to work. Willing to work until the task is complete, which can require longer hours from time to time
  • Must have flexibility in scheduling and the ability to take part in the rotating weekend and holiday schedule.
  • Able to lead and work as part of a team
  • Communication skills written and oral
  • Comfortable around farm animals. Able to follow animal welfare standards
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • English essential
