Position Purpose Summary:


To provide community-based assistance to clients requiring support to manage their financial affairs, provide money management and budget counselling to clients who may become as financially independent as reasonably possible.

Also, to provide leadership and evaluation on a broad range of all Community Service Programming. Development of holistic ministries that are relevant to the community we serve.

This is a regular part time position.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


General Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Conduct initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues),
- determining immediate needs and supports needed by the clients.

  • Provide emergency assistance services to clients. Issue food, clothing, and transportation vouchers to eligible clients in accordance with policy.
  • Participate in Church related activities along with clients/families.
  • Liaise with the Department of Social Services, Sask Justice, and other governmental departments in regard to current programming and future program possibilities or concerns.
  • Build a relationship with and coordinate the Moose Jaw Services with those offering similar services elsewhere, within and beyond the Salvation Army.
  • Ensure the development and delivery of creative and innovative programming designed to address the philosophy of "breaking the cycle of poverty".
  • May develop and conduct workshops for clients/families, as appropriate.
  • To communicate and arrange with the Community Ministries Officer and Management Team the needs and expectations of various programs.
  • Willingness to serve on teams, committees and/or boards as requested and/or required.
  • When a disaster occurs, provide emergency relief in conjunction with the Red Cross.
  • Be willing to participate in any training necessary to fulfill the duties assigned.
  • Ensures the Clients can attend camps at the at the Salvation Army Beaver Creek Camp. Ensures that all camping quotas are met.
  • Daily update client files on link to feed.
  • Organize and ensure proper delivery of the BacktoSchool Backpack Program.

Seasonal:


  • Support seasonal programs (i.e. Christmas hampers, Adopt a Family, Secret Santa, kettles, toy run, Easter camp, summer day camp, school supplies back pack program, sunshine bags, etc.)
  • Supervise and support volunteers during seasonal programs.
  • Assist in registration for seasonal programs and distribution of items.
  • Provide support as needed to the Christmas Kettle Campaign, working alongside the Kettle Coordinator to ensure a successful fundraising campaign.
  • Perform other workrelated duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:


  • Completion of at least two (2) years of Community College in the social services field working with diverse people would be an asset.
  • Ability to provide a valid Saskatchewan Class "5" Driver's license, own vehicle, and current driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
  • Holds current certificate in First Aid/CPR
  • Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:


  • Minimum 2year experience working with inner city agencies /services and clients.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft office software.
  • Experience with database management.
  • Previous experience working with clients with addictions, mental illness, or the marginalized.
  • Have experience with program coordination and administrative duties.
  • Experience building relationships and good report with community groups.
  • Clearance under The Salvation Army Abuse Registry and Criminal background check.
  • Sensitivity, awareness, and understanding of client's needs, problems, interests, skills, deficiencies, and idiosyncrasies.
  • Ability and willingness to respect, understand, further, support and promote The Salvation Army's mission, culture, and values.
  • Creativity and innovation: develop new and unique ways to improve the communitybased programming and to create new opportunities.
