About the Role
The Advance Practice Social Work Manager provides leadership and supervision for the social work team within the organization.

The Advance Practice Social Work Manager is responsible for the supervision and development of procedures and care provided by the Social Work staff, peers, students and for the professional oversight of the discipline.

This includes monitoring the competency of staff members and the appropriateness of care provided to patients and their families.


This position will work within an interdisciplinarity team to provide assessment, counselling, and referral services to assist service users in discussing issues related to their sexual and mental health, including but not limited to substance use, personality traits, and trauma.


This position provides direct supervision of the social work practice, assuring service excellence and compliance with all applicable clinical and departmental policies, laws, and department-specific regulations.

The role includes managing human resources, including recruitment and performance management; ongoing team planning; initiative implementation and evaluation; budget planning and

monitoring.

The supervisor is also responsible for duties including education and mentoring of staff, managing social work clinic coverage, staff schedules and advancement of the mission of the service.

The Advance Practice Social Work Manager may also provide direct patient care as required by programmatic needs.

The Advance Practice Social Work Manager works in collaboration with a wide variety of internal and external constituents, including (but not limited to) team members, physicians, and staff throughout the HQ continuum of care, patients, families, community services, and other health care systems.


Responsibilities

Administration and General Duties

  • Oversees and prioritizes the daytoday staff schedules/work shift assignments for the Social Workers, including patient care needs, coordinating paid time off and approving vacation requests.
  • This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the SW staff schedule.
  • Oversees and facilitates the recruitment, orientation, and training of SWs, assuring competency and facilitating relevant educational opportunities.
  • Assures that new SWs receive an orientation of sufficient duration and content.
  • Assures that SWs participate in relevant inservice education programs.
  • Completes regular chart reviews and performance appraisals for all direct reports and provides information to the Director of Mental Health Services regarding the performance of their team members.
  • Maintain program records, including maintenance of information in databases of appropriate service user demographics and service provisions, and supervise social work staff in the maintenance of these records
  • Supervise Master of Social Work and other placement students
  • Contribute to quality improvement, program reports, and proposals
  • Participate on HQ and external committees to plan, coordinate and deliver new and existing services, communicate information, resolve problems, and achieve the goals of the organization
  • Participate in weekly clinical consultation
  • Assist Director of Mental Health Services in the development of standard operating procedures to guide the work of the SW team.
  • Provides information regarding supplies and staffing needs for consideration in the departmental budget.

Supervision and Provision of Group and Crisis Counselling

  • Work with the Director of Mental Health Services to supervise the provision of assessment, group counselling, and referral services to GBT2QMSM communities
