You will be located at one of SASPCN's medical homes in St. Albert or Sturgeon County (visit our website for list of clinics)
Description:
Operating in concert with and under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, this position helps support the delivery of primary care and treatment in conjunction with physicians and in collaboration with other health professionals.
The Physician Assistant will collaborate effectively with patients, families, and an inter-professional team of expert health professionals for the provision of optimal primary care and education.
While some of the duties will be determined collaboratively between the supervising physician and the PA, you can expect to:- Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary health team and plan, implement, co-ordinate, and evaluate patient care
- Conduct patient interviews, physical assessments, and take medical histories
- Perform or order diagnostic tests and interpret results
- Perform physical examinations
- Formulate and implement treatment plans and monitor patients' progress
- Provide health maintenance education and counsel patients on preventive health care practices
- Provide referrals within the health care system
- Provide prescriptions and medical orders
- Perform and assist in minor surgery

Qualifications:
- Graduation from a Canadian Medical Association accredited program or the Physician Assistant Certification (PA-C), American designation is required
- Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and certification as a physician assistant by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) is required
- Experience working in a teambased environment with other health care professionals is preferred
- Excellent computer skills and experience working with an Electronic Medical Record system is an asset
- Strong understanding of current health information and privacy legislation is required
- Experience working in a primary care environment is preferred
- A minimum of 1 year experience working as a CPSAregistered physician assistant is preferred
