SCOPE

Reporting to the Manager, Restricted Funds, the incumbent provides quality financial services to all Principal Investigators (PI) including researchers by ensuring that research and restricted projects are in compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as external agencies as well as ensuring budgetary amounts allocated during the life of the award are respected.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and close of Research and Restricted accounts and budgetary structures.
  • Prepare journal entries, cash receipts, financial statements, invoices, and other project financial requirements.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable, payable, and overhead.
  • Prepare audit files for project and yearend audits.
  • Reconcile and analyze deficit, surplus, budgetary variances, and exceptions reports.
  • Review expenses charged to restricted funds to ensure that University policies and funding sources requirements are respected.
  • Provide financial information and services to financial managers.
  • Identify areas for improvement, make recommendations to the Manager, and follow up on decisions.
  • Provide backup services to other Financial Officers.
  • Advise Manager regarding financial management issues with respect to the activity of research funds.
  • Perform other tasks related to the management of research as assigned by the Manager.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma of College Studies (3year technical DEC), preferably in Commerce or Accountancy, or in a field related to the primary responsibilities, and two to four years of experience in processing financial transactions, with at least one year of experience undertaking accounting functions for grants or contracts.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken English and French; good knowledge (Level 4) of written English and basic knowledge (Level 3) of written French.
  • Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Excel (to do mathematical and financial calculations), of Access (to join tables and run complex queries) and of Word (to format reports and input tables into documents).
  • Knowledge of fund accounting as well as Financial Information, Human Resources Information, and Endowment Management systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Focus on accuracy and attention to details.
  • Very good interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work with mínimal supervision, autonomously, and as part of a team.
  • Proven dedication to customer service.
