Overview:


Reporting to the Manager, Operations Compliance and Analytics, the Operations Analytics Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of reporting designed to monitor and control physical damage claims costs.

This position is the key liaison with senior business leaders, including the Chief Risk Officer and Chief Operating Officer along with other members of the MPI executive team, when discussing severity of physical damage claims.

The Operations Analytics Specialist is an expert on all line-of-business reporting, providing key support to the Manager for employee coaching, and cross training.


Responsibilities:


  • Works with operational leaders to identify physical damage claim costrelated reporting needs.
  • Performs complex data and statistical analysis to identify the underlying causes of claim cost trends.
  • Identifies anomalies within claim cost trends and works with operational leaders to determine solutions and implement as required.
  • Professionally, concisely, and accurately explain the underlying causes of physical damage claims costs trends and anomalies to operational leaders, the senior leadership team and MPI executive team.
  • Collaborates with responsible business areas regarding forecasted results and financial variances, as required.
  • Accountable for leading the severity review for senior leaders and MPI executive for comprehensive and collision claims on a regular basis.
  • Coordinates resources or conducts analysis to determine if there are any underlying factors that are leading to a change in claims severity trends.
  • Collaborates with the Supervisors, Operations Analytics, and the Operations Analysts to identify, create, implement, and support mathematical and predictive models to support severity conversations with the MPI executive team.
  • Creates, implements, and maintains physical damage claim costrelated reports and dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
  • Participates in claims cost forecasting as part of the annual rate setting process, in conjunction with other
  • Responds to inquiries pertaining to any aspect of physical damage claim costs.
  • Collaborates with senior analysts and claims managers in organizations such as ICBC and SGI to benchmark and monitor physical damage claims costs.
  • Coordinates resources and work activities for operations projects related to physical damage claim costs and operations to ensure tasks are executed meeting the desired objectives, providing direction to the project team as required.
  • Coordinates resources and work activities to support development and implementation of operational key performance indicators.
  • Leads and participates in both internal and external strategic initiatives with the other Crown Insurers.
  • Partners with business analytics to proactively identify internal business issues and provide recommendations to resolve or prevent issues and to develop and evolve KPIs to support all lines of business within Operations Division.
  • Participates in special projects, strategic initiatives, and corporate crossfunctional teams, as required.
  • Assists in preparing annual departmental budgets.
  • Prepares supporting material for annual General Rate Application.
  • Supports the development and execution of operational and financial analysis to and from the Public Utilities Board (PUB) on all matters related to Physical Damage and all areas within the Operations Division.
  • Coordinates and responds to enquiries for operations related data or current standing on KPIs from external stakeholders, through media relations, government relations or other business areas as required.
  • Monitors a project budget.
  • Provides leadership that may include leading project teams on a matrix basis.
  • Defines and assesses project success and project readiness criterion factors and measurements.
  • Participates in selection and provides input on performance of project resources.
  • Fosters a highperformance team culture that is consistent with corporate vision and values, and leading practices.
  • Responsible for reviewing team processes and practices to ensure efficiency and ongoing improvement.
  • Ensures activities comply with Corporate Directives, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Commerce, Statistics, Economics, or related discipline.
  • Completion of one of the following is required:
  • Completion of an applied statistics program,
OR

  • An accounting (CPA) designation
  • Five years of experience in the insurance industry with two of those years as a senior analyst or leadership role presiding over analysts.
  • Experience in insurance claims is an asset.
