We are looking for a Business Development Officer (BDO) to lead the development of strategic relationships with key stakeholders to support our Aquatic and Crop Resource Development (ACRD) Research Centre.

The BDO provides business advice to the research centre and supports the management of the research centre's research project agreements, intellectual property and licensing portfolio.

As an established business development professional, you are passionate about research and development and have a keen understanding of the Canadian innovation system, and its importance for Canada and Canadians.

You will lead business development and client relations activities supporting the NRC's Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre.

The ACRD's research expertise combined with our unique facilities, focusses on strategic R&D and customized technical and advisory services with industry, academia and governments.

This makes the ACRD Research Centre an important resource for Canadian organizations focused on the sustainable transformation of Canadian agricultural and marine bio-resources.

What Is The Job?:


The BDO works alongside their piers in a business development team, in collaboration with project coordination and science and technology teams.

They manage relationships with Canadian and International universities, government organizations, and industry via a portfolio of agreements. They track status, and pro-actively ensure timely execution of research and licensing agreements.

They provide strategic guidance, senior level stakeholder engagement expertise, intellectual property management support, and lead complex research and licensing agreement negotiations.

As such, this position catalyzes business objectives and strategic plans, increasing and strengthening the NRC value proposition and stakeholder relationships, and helps to devise new business approaches.


The BDO supports the business and partnership objectives of the NRC by developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies to meet the objectives of the ACRD Research Centre.

The BDO guides ACRD's management team, often leading contacts with high-level stakeholders in industry, government, and academia.

The position must understand the priorities of the Canadian community, as well as NRC's various programs, research centres and divisions, the Government of Canada and Canada's R&D ecosystem, and must possess an up-to-date, sharp insight of stakeholder priorities in relevant technology domains.


The insight provided by this position significantly guides the decisions of ACRD's management in relation to strategic initiatives, nationally, and internationally.

The BDO works with researchers at ACRD to establish collaborative relationships and projects with key stakeholders in industry, academia and government and to achieve targeted growth in new opportunities for ACRD to provide technical or research services to clients.
