The Role:

There are nearly 40,000 Indigenous people in our Nation's Capital, and Wabano serves over 15,000 of them every year.

While you may think of Wabano primarily as a medical clinic, most clients come through doors to be part of our programs.

From Elder teachings to Lunch and learns, from Cultural nights to Indigenous cultural safety training workshops, the Training and Education Department is the de facto cultural hub of Wabano.


Wabano is now looking for an experienced leader to create a new vision and structure for the Training and Quality Assurance department and oversee its success.

The Responsibilities:


Reporting to the CEO and working as a member of our senior management team, the Manager of Training and Quality Assurance will lead the operational success of Wabano's cultural education and training initiatives_._ We will rely on you to form a strong and enthusiastic team dedicated to improving the lives of Indigenous people and with the skills to meet both funder and community expectations.


Team management and development

  • Craft a new Team structure and create a plan to actualize this new structure.
  • Recruit, hire, and oversee orientation and continual learning of your department.
  • Supervise and coach your Team Leads.
  • Build cohesion between your teams.
  • Inspire confidence in your team through effective communication and clear direction.

Quality program creation, delivery, and evaluation

  • Be inspired by Indigenous ways of being and knowing, finding innovative ways to merge culture with services.
  • Identify client and community needs and support team in creating services to meet these needs balancing with funder requirements.
  • Implement relevant activities on the strategic plan and communicate strategic priorities to your team.
  • Engage consultants (evaluators, event planners, etc.), elders, and traditional knowledge keepers to support your team's efforts.
  • Lead quality assurance initiatives and consistently monitor the quality of all services, identifying areas for improvement and leading solutions when needed.
  • Streamline internal operational processes so that staff can do their work effectively.

Program budgets and reporting

  • Create budget forecasts and spending plans in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Manage program budgets and monitor spending.
  • Ensure all funder reports are completed accurately and on time.

Qualifications:

Specific requirements include:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree.
  • Five (5) years of experience in team management roles
  • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility, the span of control, and performance.
  • A strong change and project management skills overseeing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth.
  • Demonstrated success n developing and operationalizing innovative community engagement and training programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work occasional flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Salary Range:

- $85,000-$90,000 per year + Benefits
