Position Purpose**:


The Supervisor, Retail Metering supervises the customer metering technical staff and processes to ensure delivery of new & upgraded metering services, projects and meter maintenance activities.


Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

  • Investigates, evaluates and implements new developments in technology, operations and standards
  • Analyzes and interprets data and prepares service and technical reports to identify areas of service improvement and cost savings in the system, ensuring continuous high quality service delivery and measures
  • Supervises activities involved in the installation, testing and maintenance of control measurement equipment, such as electrical consumption meters, MV90 Interval Meter Interrogation software and power quality devices, to ensure accurate revenue metering, wholesale and retail settlement and quality service delivery
  • Provides technical direction regarding Metering and Metering Technologies
  • Resolves Distributed Generation Metering issues
  • Oversees troubleshooting and resolution of metering issues
Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Researches, recommends and implements new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness
  • Leads and/or participates in department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget
  • Provides input into department goals and objectives
  • Monitors departmental budget and identifies issues/discrepancies
  • Aligns business unit work programs to respective work centres' efficiently
Compliance and Risk Management

  • Maintains product and service quality standards
  • Understands and meets regulated Meter market participant requirements
  • Executes planned Reverification and Seal Extension Programs
  • Oversees Commercial Metering installation construction
Relationship Management

  • Stays well informed on related industry issues, especially government and regulatory policies, and maintains a network of industry stakeholders
  • Addresses problematic customer complaints or inquiries regarding meter related billing concerns, water heater maintenance problems or technical power quality issues and issues orders for installation, connection, discontinuance or changes in electrical services as required
  • Works closely with New Services and Customer Service
  • Assists in Revenue Protection Program as related to Metering
Resource Management

  • Plans work for, supervises and provides technical support for the Metering Technicians, Metering Clerks and contractors to ensure consistent standards of operation and service
  • Ensures Meter records are thorough and complete
  • Provides coaching, development, performance management, technical guidance and advice
  • Plans, organizes and supervises daily activities of operational unit
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection of staff and make recommendations for the hiring, reassignment, employment status change, promotion, demotion and/or dismissal of staff to ensure that all positions are filled by qualified staff
  • Evaluates the performance of direct reports, train and develop staff by providing technical advice, recommend external training, positive reinforcement, constructive criticism and discipline when necessary to ensure the maintenance of a knowledgeable and effective staff
  • Administers applicable Collective Agreement and represent management in grievance resolution
Safety Leadership

  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Ensures all aspects of company's safety philosophy is executed and adhered to
  • Provides leadership through effective counsel and coaching of staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications:
Education & Specialized Knowledge

  • University degree or college diploma in electrical engineering/technology or recognized experience equivalency
  • Professional Engineer, Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Certified Technician (CTech) designation
  • Advanced knowledge of billing, metering, power quality management, systems and software (MV90)
  • In depth knowledge of OHSA, EUSR rule book and associated safety regulations
  • Knowledge of regulatory and governmental requirements including Measurement Canada, IESO, OEB, ESA regulation legislation, codes rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment and their lifecycles and maintenance requirements
  • Strong understanding of electricity metering systems, principles and practices, electricity distribution systems, safety standards and protection codes
  • Ability to read technical drawings
