PulseMedica, an Edmonton-based start-up, is seeking a highly skilled engineer to lead the electronics team at PulseMedica and be responsible for the development of embedded Firmware to join our dynamic team, and play a pivotal role in leading the development of our innovative ophthalmic medical device.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support throughout the entire development lifecycle.
  • Oversee the architecture and development of firmware, high speed electronics and FPGA solutions for our ophthalmic medical device, ensuring it meets performance, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including software, electronics, and hardware teams, to define system architectures that integrate firmware and FPGA components.
  • Provide architectural guidance for both firmware and FPGA components, making informed decisions that drive product performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with external software teams to facilitate integration of firmware and FPGA elements within the larger system architecture.
  • Utilize project management tools, such as JIRA, to track progress, identify potential roadblocks, and ensure efficient project execution.
  • Take ownership of project timelines, resource allocation, and risk assessment, working proactively to keep projects on track.
  • Developing and deploying firmware on FPGA based platforms and microcontrollers for sophisticated ophthalmic medical devices and systems by generating ideas, architecting, and building solutions that strike a balance between complexity, cost, and performance
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to define firmware requirements and specifications for our ophthalmic medical device.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 510 years of current or past handson experience in firmware development, with a strong track record of leading and overseeing firmware architecture.

Qualifications**:


  • Proficiency in embedded programming languages (e.g., C, C++) and familiarity with realtime operating systems (RTOS).
  • Extensive understanding of FPGA technologies and the ability to define FPGA architectures.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience using tools like JIRA.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in a leadership or management role, with a passion for mentoring and developing team members.
  • Problemsolving aptitude and the ability to make informed decisions that balance technical and business considerations.
  • Possess a deep understanding of firmware development, including embedded processors, realtime operating systems (RTOS), and communication protocols.
  • Have a strong grasp of FPGA technologies and be capable of defining FPGA architectures that align with the overall system design.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Previous involvement in the medical device industry

Duration:
Full time Permanent (40 hours per week)


Salary:
Commensurate to experience and qualifications
