Principal Tasks

Test engineer working directly with small product development team to evaluate and qualify high speed 25Gb/s optical IMDD and 400Gb/s to 800Gb/s coherent transceiver designs in Avda labs.

You will gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of optical communication product development, packaging, as well as design verification of silicon photonic transceivers.

Tasks will include:

  • Work directly with electrical design engineers and firmware engineers to evaluate and improve performance of the design against industry and internal specifications such as Telcordia GR468 reliability requirements
  • Contribute ideas and modify test plans as needed
  • Create automated test scrips where necessary for testing parameters such as:
  • BER versus receive power, wavelength, and operating temperature ranges-
  • Tunable C-band laser characterization over temperature and output power-
  • Optical receiver characterization over temperature, receive power, OSNR, and data rates-
  • Evaluate optimal signal equalization parameters and performance over various conditions-
  • Testing passive and active silicon photonic optical structures-
  • Work with other engineers to evaluate robustness of silicon photonic packaging concepts-
  • Organize test data and create summary report explaining performance against specifications using basic statistical analysis
  • Test equipment used: Optical power meters, variable optical attenuators, optical wavelength meter, optical spectrum analyzer, Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT), high speed digital scope (DCA), chromatic dispersion emulator, environmental chambers, SiP probe stations
Supplementary Tasks- Minimal assistance with other necessary lab functions such preparing test modules for shipping or receiving to other R&D locations- Order equipment or supplies as necessary
