PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Manager, Charge Nurse, Registered Nurse, or Therapists (PT, OT, RA) the Nursing Clinical Extern will provide support to the nursing units by assisting the teams with patient care related to the level of education completed.

This position is a support position to our front line interprofessional teams to ensure they are focused on core care duties as our inpatient capacity increases related to the impact of COVID 1- This role is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Science Centre's strategy.

As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Nursing Clinical Extern 1_
Enrolled in a Nursing Program (RN or RPN) at a postsecondary institution OR Enrollment in an Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Respiratory Therapy program.
Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
Nursing Clinical Extern 2_
Enrolled and successfully completed at least 1 year in a Nursing Program (RN or RPN) at a postsecondary institution.
Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.

JOB DUTIES:

Assists with activities of daily living and personal care under the direction of RN/RPN/PCA
Assists with ambulation/ positioning and patient rounding.
Provide assistance to patients and clients during mealtime, including meal tray set up.
Participating and contributing to all aspects of infection control measures and/or programs
