The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) is a national insurance association representing insurers, software providers and over 38,000 brokers.

CSIO develops data standards, manages distribution network technologies and drives emerging technologies and solutions to enhance connectivity within the property & casualty
(P&C) insurance industry.


Position Summary:

The Manager, Technology and API Development is a hands-on role that is responsible to drive industry collaboration for API technology development, digital and technology improvements designed to realize value optimization, efficiency, effectiveness, and improved workflows through the implementation of industry standards.

There is a particular focus on transformations to improve digital connectivity between brokers, insurers, vendors and the end consumer through API development.

(INNOTECH) Working Groups that drive digital innovation to ultimately improve customer experiences within insurance by identifying major operational issues, common challenges, and solution. You will stay at the forefront of industry developments related to emerging technologies and business models and understand the implications, opportunities and threats for our members.

What will you do?

• Manage the development of the latest JSON API microservices for personal and commercial lines of business.
• Facilitate the execution of our innovation strategy designed to transform business processes within the broker distribution channel through API development.
• Lead the development and implementation of an industry API testing environment of JSON APIs.
• Translate strategy into executable actions including project development, operational reviews and scorecard metrics.
• Lead the INNOTECH API Technical Working Group that helps resolve industry pain points for the exchange of data between brokers and insurers.
• Manage a team of technical analysts driving the CSIO cloudbased solutions for the P&C industry.
• Work with members and stakeholders to define and deliver business transformations, leveraging enabling technology in conjunction with operating model, business process, organizational and other changes to create value for our members.
• Secure consensus, alignment and engagement from stakeholders and effectively communicating the scope, anticipated outcomes and deliverables to all project stakeholders.
• Define key KPIs that drive transparency of strategic initiatives and business improvements.
• Track key industry technology shifts and trends for impacts and opportunities.
• Define appropriate processes and manage compliance to ensure delivery quality of industry solutions.

E.g. requirements management, risk management, change management, issue management, resource management, project accounting.

• Execute a governance process to provide the senior leadership team with visibility into strategic initiatives performance.
• Evaluate research and market analysis to seek out opportunities to partner with third party technology vendors.
• Utilizing agile project and program methodology to ensure projects are completed as agreed against a background of constantly changing and occasionally conflicting priorities.
• Drive business insights into continuous transformation opportunities designed to improve digital interactions between insurance trading partners and the end consumer.

Skills & Qualifications:

• University degree, preferably in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• 7 or more years of experience in Information Technology, with a focus on strategic planning, design, development, implementation and operations, with 5 or more of those years in a leadership role.
• 4 or more years experience in the P&C insurance Industry required.
• Strong leadership and collaboration skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to present confidently to senior executives, attention to detail and strong planning and management ability.
• Deep knowledge of enterprise and security technologies is expected. Specific strong knowledge and experience with common hosting, storage and networking technologies, as well as cloud, are required.
• 4 or more years development experience with JSON API restful services
• Proven handson experience of newer technologies (API Microservices, Cloud and Mobile platforms, Web
• Experience with AWS and Azure cloud services including deployment and support of these platforms
• Thorough knowledge of IT functions and technologies, processes, service delivery models, governance and standards.
• Proven track record of driving project management expertise and leading multiple simultaneous complex initiatives.
