    The Opportunity
    We are currently seeking a Director, Canada Safety to join our Safety and Technical Services group, based in Calgary, AB. Reporting to the Vice President, Safety & Governance, the Director, Canada Safety, will be accountable for strategic leadership of a team of safety professionals to support the Canada Gas operating assets, projects, and contractor safety.

    This position is a key member of an integrated North American Safety & Governance Leadership team working closely with Operations, Engineering, Projects, and other internal and external stakeholders. The role is a key contributor to advance safety maturity, culture, and the prevention of major accidents and serious injuries and is part of multi-disciplinary technical services team advancing safety, integrity, reliability, and cost-effective performance of assets across the Canada Gas pipeline system.

    What You'll Do

    • Provide strategic leadership, direction and coaching to the Safety team
    • Provide strategic direction and oversight to the Canadian Gas pipeline business unit related to employee and contractor safety, emergency management, industrial health, and hygiene
    • Ensure policies, procedures, and standards are effectively communicated to employees and contractors, and drive alignment of practice across all areas
    • Ensure emergency management procedures, training, and response is effectively managed
    • Establish and execute safety improvement plans and goals in conjunction with key stakeholders to prevent major accidents and serious injuries with the desired culture, actions, and outcomes
    • Direct the activities of regional safety teams to effectively collaborate across Canada Gas pipelines to ensure operations, engineering, and projects are executed safely and within all regulatory and environmental requirements
    • Provide leadership and direction in the development of Contractor Safety Management Plans (CSMP), Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSP), Emergency Management, and Business Continuity Plans across operations and projects
    • Leverage technology to support data driven and risk-based decisions across the business unit
    • Develop, implement, monitor, and report on Safety processes and procedures for Operations, Engineering, and Projects
    • Interface with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies as required
    • Coach, mentor, and develop direct reports and their teams
    • Identify resourcing and performance issues within the team, taking corrective action as necessary
    • Manage and facilitate communications and cooperation between multi-functional teams
    • Resolve conflicting priorities and other team conflicts as required
    • Represent the company in communication/negotiation with various third-party stakeholders

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Post-Secondary Education in a related field (Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, Project Management)
    • 15 years progressive experience in relevant roles
    • 5 years of leadership level experience in safety management in operations and/or projects
    • Proven track record of building strong teams and building a culture of safety, a respectful workplace, and holding people accountable
    • Experience in multiple safety management methodologies, techniques, and processes
    • Experience in the leadership of large linear, multi- jurisdictional projects, preferably pipeline, or in other industries such as energy infrastructure (oil & gas, power, petrochemical), transportation and transmission
    • Strong passion for safety leadership and awareness of management systems and working knowledge of safety related programs
    • Ability to consistently identify opportunities and the initiative and courage to implement improvements
    • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills with multiple stakeholders who have differing priorities

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Demonstrated ability to form effective business relationships including third party engineering, key suppliers, and construction companies
    • Proven leadership track record that engages, motivates, and effectively drives performance of team members, as well as promoting a culture of accountability and respect in the workplace
    • Proven knowledge of OSHA standards and Canadian and Provincial safety legislation
    • CRSP, CSP, CCPSC certification or other professional designation

    This position requires candidates to:

    • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
    • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated ~ 33% of work schedule)
