The Division of Hematology (Ottawa Blood Disease Centre), Department of Medicine of The Ottawa Hospital/University of Ottawa is experiencing significant clinical and academic growth.

We are seeking a hematologist to join our Lymphoma Program as well as in our expansion, and to lead in clinical care, education and research as a full-time faculty member.


The lymphoproliferative group currently consists of 6 faculty who see >600 new lymphoma and CLL patients per year, offers a clinical lymphoma fellowship program, and conducts a mix of clinical research activities.

The Lymphoproliferative Disease Group partners with the Transplant and Cell Therapy program to provide hematopoietic cell transplants and immune effector cell therapies, with both commercial and research product activity.

All faculty in the Malignant Hematology Program are co-located at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital.


The Ottawa Blood Disease Centre is a large group of 41 faculty that work within a group practice plan model within the University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital academic centre.

The Division has three well-defined and successful clinical and research programs: Malignant Hematology, Thrombosis and Benign Hematology.

The 20+ faculty members in The Malignant Hematology, Transplant and Cellular Therapy programs work within well-defined and integrated clinical and research groups, with a variety of academic pursuits.


The Ottawa Hospital is a 1150 bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites (Civic, General, Heart Institute, and the Rehabilitation Centre) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside).

There are approximately 50,000 inpatient admissions, 160,000 emergency visits and over one million outpatient visits annually.

The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is TOH's research arm.

It ranks fourth out of more than 600 Canadian hospitals for competitive, peer-reviewed grants from the prestigious Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

OHRI houses over 2,200 researchers, publishing more than 2,000 studies yearly, with hundreds being high impact publications (top 10% or citations) and places 5th overall in Canada for research funding.

The Department of Medicine is a research-intensive Department. Members currently hold 28 University Research Chairs.

The Department receives approximately $60 million per year in external research funding and members publish approximately 1200 peer-reviewed publications annually.

Responsibilities


The Lymphoproliferative Disease Group is looking to enhance academic productivity to complement the existing excellent clinical program and academic activities.

To facilitate this, we are recruiting 2 academically focused early or mid-career lymphoma hematologists who are looking for the opportunity to join a supportive group with 50% protected time for academic pursuits.

Fellows completing their lymphoma fellowship and interested trainees are encouraged to apply.

Job Benefits
The position is part of a provincial Alternate Funding Plan (AFP), with salary and benefits that are competitive nationally.

Income is derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (fee-for-service), salary support (AFP) as well as honorariums/stipends.

Health and welfare benefits including extended health, dental and disability insurance as well as life insurance are offered to full-time physicians.
