Description

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Light Fleet, the Vehicle Service Attendant will be responsible to deep clean and disinfect ambulances, response vehicles and associated support vehicles.

Shuttle vehicles from vehicle maintenance area to various locations throughout the City as needed. Maintain, perform repairs to the stretchers and related ambulance equipment and keep electronic record of same.

Inspection of response vehicles utilizing check sheet, inspecting lights, engine fluids and vehicle condition prior to returning units into service.

The Vehicle Service Attendant also restocks ambulances and medical kits, maintains equipment and cleaning program.


As the _Vehicle Service Attendant_

you will:

  • Deep clean and disinfect ambulances, response vehicles and associated support vehicles.
  • Physically removes all equipment from the vehicle and utilizes correct procedures to ensure all compartments are disinfected correctly.
  • Maintain cleaning rotation database.
  • Restock ambulances and medical kits.
  • Stock medical supply cupboards and medical supplies.
  • Inspect single use items (IV fluids) expiry dates and package integrity.
  • Order cleaning and disinfection equipment, tools, and chemical products as per minimum and maximum levels.
  • Maintain supplies at central service location and HSC garage.
  • Shuttle vehicles from Fleet Services to various locations throughout the City as needed.
  • Drives vehicles to and from various vendors for maintenance repairs and liaisons with the vendors to ensure the correct repairs are noted and performed.
  • Checks to see if vehicle repairs are completed prior to departure from vendor.
  • Inspection of response vehicles utilizing a check sheet, inspecting lights and engine fluids prior to returning units into service.
  • Utilize check list to see if vehicle is ready for service prior to vehicle leaving facility.
  • Maintain database of same.
  • Maintain and perform inspections / repairs to the stretchers, stair chairs and other related ambulance equipment and keep electronic record of same. Maintain stretcher and stair chair database.
  • Physically perform regular maintenance on a scheduled basis and perform minor repairs when required to the stretchers and ambulance patient compartment accessories.
  • Records all repairs and maintenance in a maintenance software system.
  • Pickup and delivery of supplies which are clean and soiled from hospital and other locations.
  • Utilize backboard / cleaning machine return clean equipment to service equipment.
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the classification, as required.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • High school (Grade 12) graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Full Driver's License.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Familiar with Ambulance Act Regulations, WHMIS and MSDS, infection control practices, ambulance equipment and safe working practices.
  • Mechanical aptitude and demonstrated knowledge of the use of power and hand tools.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position in all weather conditions (must be able to lift 20 lbs.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the ability to learn other internal software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise, oral and written reports.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and deal with the general public and other employees in person in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to develop a routine maintenance program.
  • Ability to acquire within three (3) months working knowledge of the City and the WFPS's:
  • Respectful Workplace Administrative Standard.
  • Standards, directives, guidelines, protocols, policies, procedures, and practices relevant to this position's responsibilities.
  • Work with maintenance software system to record performed stretcher maintenance.

Conditions of employment:


  • The successful applicant must possess and maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Full Driver's License.
  • Willingness and ability to work in adverse or inclement weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, rain, snow, dry, humid and/or dusty air).
  • Willingness and ability to successfully complete additional training relevant to this position, as determined by WFPS management and within the timeframes specified by WFPS management.
