Job Title:
Laboratory Technician

Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager

Part-Time

Basic Purpose:

Results oriented to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures. Perform sample preparation/extractions of target compounds under specific matrices and provide general laboratory support in the analysis of samples.


Key Accountability/Responsibilities:


  • Adheres to Bureau Veritas' Code of Ethics.
  • Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) when conducting following work:
o Perform sample preparation and procedures prior to analyses

o Perform some basic testing procedures

o Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling

  • Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements
  • Identify and communicate procedural nonconformances to Supervisor
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mixup and cross contamination between samples and other materials
  • Provide general laboratory support
  • Update supervisor/manager workstation status including advance notification of any delays
  • Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
  • Participate, when requested in department and Health & Safety meetings
  • Participate, when requested in internal and external audits
  • Keep work area clean, neat and organized
  • Maintain training records and relevant qualifications
  • All other responsibilities as assigned

Skills and Knowledge:


  • Post-Secondary school education or equivalent experience
  • Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and instructions
  • Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills.
  • Good timemanagement, communication, multitasking and priority setting skills.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fastpaced environment
  • Adapt to a changing environment
  • Work both independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to learn quickly

Working Conditions:


  • High level of work production in fastpaced lab environment
  • Can involve the repetition of the same process
  • Requires patience, tenacity and persistence
  • Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work
  • May involve long periods of standing
  • Some lifting and carrying (up to 10kg)
  • Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment

The salary range for this role is $19-$21


Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
