WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East & Poland.

We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering systems in various environments including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.

WJ Groundwater strives to meet client expectations for dewatering system performance and execute projects on time and on budget.

As Water Treatment Specialist, you will be responsible for designing and managing the water treatment activities and systems across numerous construction projects.


Key Role Objectives

This role has two key objectives:

  • Design and facilitate the development of water treatment systems related to construction dewatering activities.
  • Provide clear and focused leadership on all project functions related to project management, project control, design and engineering management, and construction management to meet the Client's overall goals.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Manage water treatment projects related to construction dewatering that involve multidisciplinary engineering teams, including structural, architectural, building mechanical, process mechanical, I&C, electrical, etc.
  • Lead and support water process design activities, including equipment sizing and selection, for water treatment plants, reservoirs, pumping stations and related infrastructure.
  • Prepare cost estimations, quotations, and proposals for water treatment projects.
  • Provide detailed calculations for water processes.
  • Lead pilot and treatability studies.
  • Lead commissioning activities.
  • Effectively develop and maintain healthy client relationships throughout the project execution and project closeout.
  • Be a part of the Company's team environment that supports our clientfocused objectives, where employees meet the expectations, requirements and agreements of our Clients.
  • Define project scope, goals, deliverables, quality, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop detailed work breakdown structures and project execution plans from preliminary design to contract administration.
  • Support the planning and preparation of accurate fee estimates to complete projects and baseline cash and financial performance indicators for future project control.
  • Manage the planning and scheduling of project deliverables and the development of schedules for design and contract administration services.
  • Perform contract administration duties.
  • Develop an execution plan that allows work to be completed in logical sequences, monitors design activities, manages interdisciplinary data flow and communication, and manages the introduction of design changes.
  • Lead and support design meetings, workshops, and decision making with Clients and interdisciplinary design team members.
  • Proactively resolve performance, scope, cost, and schedule issues.
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of engineering and financial status reports to our clients.
  • Consistently deliver on each project to achieve toptier industry benchmarks for quality, overall project delivery and project financials.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in chemical, environmental or civil engineering or engineering field relevant to water treatment, reservoirs and pumping stations.
  • A minimum of 3 years of processing design, project management and construction experience in water treatment plants, reservoirs, pumping stations and related infrastructure.
  • A valid driver's license is required for travel between Company projects and sites.
  • Proficiency in common desktop packages (i.e. Microsoft suites, AutoCAD).
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problemsolving, and analytical skills.
  • A motivated team player; independent and organized with a strong business acumen.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario or eligibility within 12 months is considered an asset.
  • Water process, design and commissioning capabilities is considered an asset.
  • A general understanding of electrical, instrumentation and process controls is considered an asset.
