- Integration of naturebased climate solutions into planning regulations
- Support the implementation of the Green Network Plan
- Liaise between ECC & Planning to integrate environmental thinking in decisions and reconnect with Planning from ECC perspective on key areas of work such as regional planning, parks, housing, developments, etc.
- Identify environmental stipulations within planning strategies
- Represent ECC at planning meetings & review new developments for environmental concerns
- Inventory of historical environmental planning considerations by district
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and perform intermediatelevel professional work and provide technical assistance and information to staff and the public related to a broad range of planning matters, focused on environmental planning
- Subject matter expert in environmental science in one or more of the following areas: biology, conservation, ecology, geography, GIS, environmental studies, or similar field
- Liaise between citizens, government agencies, developers, and elected officials on planning matters as required
- Design and facilitates communityfocused strategic planning, education, and consultation processes as required
- Identify emerging planning trends, policies, and best practices from other jurisdictions and makes recommendations on policies and planning initiatives to address environmental problems and opportunities
- Lead or support the development of policy options, analysis and reports on planning issues, and participates as a team member for multidisciplinary projects in partnership with various stakeholders
- Research, analyze, and support the preparation of reports, terms of reference, request for proposals, policies and procedures, correspondence and briefs for ECC management
- Prepare, present and maintain comprehensive land use bylaws, subdivision bylaws and other regulations regarding environmental planning
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
- University degree from an accredited planning program and three (3) years of professional planning experience;
OR: - University degree from a non-accredited but related program (such as Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, Geographic/Spatial Information systems, or Geography) and five (5) years of professional planning experience
- Candidacy as a Licensed Professional Planner (LPP) or equivalent Provincial or International designation is considered an asset
- Experience working in a municipal government environment is considered an asset
Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Welldeveloped knowledge of the principles and practices of planning including crossfunctional knowledge involving other disciplines
- Indepth knowledge of one or more areas of planning specializations, including environmental/natural resources planning (other areas include community development, urban design, housing, and parks and recreation)
- Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal government environmental regulations and programs
- Thorough knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, the HRM Charter, the Subdivision Bylaw, various HRM Municipal Planning Strategies and Land Use bylaws related to land use planning and the ability to interpret and draft bylaws and contracts
- Superior written and verbal communications and strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
- Creative problemsolving skills to gather relevant information to solve less welldefined practical problems

WORK STATUS:
Permanent, full-time
HOURS OF WORK:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week
SALARY:
$41.26/hour (level 9), as per NSGEU 222 Collective Agreement
WORK LOCATION: 3rd floor of Dartmouth Ferry Terminal (88 Alderney Dr, Dartmouth)
