Overview:


  • This company values collaboration at every level. The Controller will be relied upon by our management team to provide financial input and advice for a wide variety of processes and decisions.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for leading and managing the Accounting team including recruitment and selection, performance and succession management
  • Responsible for the timely preparation and analyses of management reports, financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cost accounting statements and special projects, which are analytical in nature
  • Responsible for the design and maintenance of internal controls with regards to the safeguarding of financial assets. Will operate the finance and accounting function as a profit centre, constantly seeking to improve financial performance wherever possible
  • Responsible for the design, development and implementation of best practices with regard to departmental budgeting, with a goal of improving financial planning, control and accountability
  • Will conduct independent studies and analyses, with a goal on advising management on specific financial issues where interpretation and recommendation is required, including return on investment, cost/benefit analysis and budget variances
  • Responsible for maintaining relationships with banks, auditors and other advisors
  • Manages annual financial audits, tax audits and other financial reviews undertaken from time to time
  • Working with external advisors, responsible for income, sales and other taxes in Canada and the U.S.

Knowledge and Skills:


  • 5 + years of relevant experience, preferably with experience in a people management role
  • CPA accounting designation is an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Canadian GAAP required
  • Basic knowledge of Canadian and US Sales Tax and Income Taxes an asset
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Must be highly organized
