Nature & Scope:
- The Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer is a key member of the fundraising team whose portfolio will focus on supporting fundraising through Major Gifts and Planned Giving. Reporting directly to the GM, Fund Development, this professionally mannered, selfmotivated, creative thinking, resultsoriented individual is comfortable making an ask, managing a team of volunteers, written and verbal presentations, writing proposals and grant submissions, and working with prospective and existing donors. This exciting position has the opportunity to work on local, provincial and nationwide projects. The Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer is responsible for raising major gift pledges to support the YMCA in social impact service programs. They are also the staff lead for volunteerdriven major gift fundraising, part of the senior fundraising team to do grant/proposal pitches, develop strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of key donors. This individual will also support the YMCA BC Foundation in planned giving strategies and recruitment.
Major Responsibilities:
Major Gift Individual, Foundation and Corporate Donors for the Major Gift Program
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for select major gift prospects, developing and implementing a written donor strategy and relationship record (using Raisers Edge) of all interactions
- Communicate with portfolio through face to face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings, and written strategies
- Ensure that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
- Participate in prospect clearance
Comprehensive Campaign
- Responsible to ensure threeyear comprehensive campaign goals are met
- From a major gifts program perspective, work collaboratively with program staff and members of the development department to understand the key program and capital projects that the have been determined to require priority fundraising
- Develop and maintain a detailed campaign plan and calendar in order to achieve campaign goals
- Work with GM Fund Development to set priorities
- Manage and adjust the work plan and calendar as needed
- Maintain up to date knowledge of major programmatic initiatives
- Moves management strategy of annual donors to major gifts/legacy giving
Campaign Strategy
- Work with the GM, Fund Development to manage revenue projection and expense budget, as well work with Manager FD Systems to ensure pledges and pledge fulfillments
Grants
Planned Giving
- Work with the GM, Fund Development and send, YBC Foundation to support the planning and execution of planned giving strategy and recruitment.
Events
- Be a visible presence at funds development special events, such as major donor cultivation events and fundraisers
The Major Gift and Planned Giving Officer will identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective donors, in expanding their financial support of the work of the YMCA.
