Job Description:


Upon your arrival, you will support the Enerkem Alberta Biofuels team in the start-up, operation and optimization of the syngas production and gas treatment units, compressors, reactors, and distillation units to produce second-generation alcohols.

You will report to the Operations Supervisor.

Your role and responsibilities will be the following:

  • Provide vacation and sick coverage for the Chief Engineer
  • Direct and supervise the safe operation of the power and thermal fluid plant
  • Operate the water treatment plant and oversee the water treatment program to ensure limits and parameters for boiler, condensate and cooling water systems are strictly adhered to
  • Ensure that the logbook is updated with all matters pertaining to the safety, maintenance, testing, and operation of the boilers and thermal fluid system
  • Sign the logbook as shift engineer at the end of the shift
  • Provide effective shift relief to the incoming Shift Engineer
  • Willingness to work overtime to support business needs
  • Ensure that 2hour rounds are conducted on all steam generators
  • Ensure that 4hour rounds are conducted on the thermal fluid system
  • Notify the steam chief of any unsafe condition, accident, or fire within the required timeframe
  • Troubleshoot the equipment under the scope of this position
  • Demonstrate the technical knowledge, skill, and experience required to supervise the equipment under the scope of this position
  • Take reasonable actions necessary to maintain the power plant in a safe operating condition
  • Responsible for the maintenance of various tasks and projects as assigned by the Chief Engineer
  • Intervene in the event of an emergency or a disruption to protect people, stabilize the process, and protect the environment
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards of quality and safety at work
  • Work on rotating shifts (day, night, and weekends)
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
  • Perform other duties as necessary

Qualifications:


  • Three to five years relatable experience is required
  • Experience in gas production, treatment, and compression
  • Experience in alcohol distillation would be considered an asset
  • Ability to understand and follow all safety, environmental, quality, and operational procedures and policies are primary responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of permitting and safe out procedures
  • Familiarity with Alberta Safety Codes Act
  • Familiarity with ASME Section I, and VII
  • Sense of responsibility and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Concern for the safety of individuals and for the protection of the environment
  • Openness to technological innovation
  • Previous experience working with P&ID's
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklift, telehandler, and man lift preferred
  • Applicants should be comfortable with working outdoors in all weather conditions, working at heights
  • Microsoft Suite knowledge, including Excel and Word
