The City of Edmonton offers a monthly payment program (MPP) for property and business improvement area (BIA) taxes.

Program enrollment increases annually and represents collections of approximately $90 million per month. Payments made through the monthly payment plan account for over 40% of the total taxes levied.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Verify the accuracy of calculations for payment, penalty, and administration fee amounts and ensure accurate charges and initial payment months are applied
  • Review individual tax accounts to identify sources of errors and discrepancies in addressing, legal description and assessed party information
  • Maintain auditable documentation and electronic files for monthly payment information, correspondence and other documentation related to the program
  • Research returned monthly payment mail, redirect where appropriate, and update TACS records
  • Work with the Tax Service team and other Taxation teams in an integrated fashion to resolve complex and multifaceted customer inquiries and escalations
  • Update and maintain policy and procedure manuals related to the monthly payment program
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • A minimum of three years progressively responsible general office experience including experience working in a municipal tax office
  • Experience dealing with the public in a politically sensitive environment and assisting in the instruction of less experienced staff is also required
  • Demonstrated ability entering large amounts of alphanumeric data with mínimal errors under tight timelines
  • Proficiency in POSSE, SAP and TACS is an asset
  • Knowledge of the monthly payment program guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of professionalism, integrity, diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy and ability to multitask competing priorities in a fast paced, highvolume environment
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement

_ Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 18 months in accordance with Article 18.02 of the Collective Agreement_

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week; Monday to Friday

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
