Your Opportunity


The role of a Surface Water EIT is to work on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the close guidance and supervision of a senior engineer/designer.

You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations and field work.


As a Surface Water EIT, you will assist more senior engineers/designers by performing the routine aspects of surface water engineering assignments, and may also assist in the analysis of projects.


Your Key Responsibilities

  • Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/ designer
  • Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/ designer. Field assignments may include the monitoring of surface water systems and features, water quality sampling, drainage system or bathymetery surveys, etc.
  • Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions
  • Assists in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices
  • Performs basic calculations to analyze and design water resources system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software (e.g., SWMHYMO, PC-SWMM, MIDUSS, GAWSER, HEC-RAS, etc.)
  • Performs a variety of tasks which may include analyzing proposed project solutions to ensure reliability and cost effectiveness
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff
  • Undertaking modeling and design tasks associated with Surface Water works in support of a wide variety of projects in both the private and public sectors. Assignments could include stormwater management and Low Impact Development designs for development projects, Subwatershed Plans, floodplain delineation/management analyses, drainage assessments for transportation projects, renewable energy projects, erosion control studies, etc.
  • Coordinating with engineers, technical staff and/or team members in various disciplines to ensure that the projects' needs are met in a timely and effective manner
  • Researching issues related to surface water resources that impact individual projects
  • Writing technical reports and design briefs to document analyses
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of written, technical and graphic work

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of water resources, environmental and/or civil engineering design
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, to engage in creative and critical thought and to effectively communicate ideas to others
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, standards, and other similar material
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Developing cooperative skills in working efficiently within a team
  • Ability to carry out field work within the Waterloo Region on limited notice

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering. Minimum of 0-2 years of experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
