    Description

    The Opportunity:

    The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fillthe permanent full-time position of HR Specialist – Field Safety . The HR Specialist – Field Safety positionensures that employees of The City of Red Deer have a safe work environment.Coordinates and enhances the many department-level corporate safety initiativesof the organization. Will provide Occupational Health and Safety consultationto a variety of City departments to ensure compliance with current OH&SLegislation. Advises on department policy and procedure development relevant tosafety. Ensures that reported incidents are completed and analyzed to identifytrends that may require further corrective action or to make appropriaterecommendations. Provides information and stewardship to Health and SafetyCommittees. Supports maintenance of an effective Health and Safety ManagementSystem for the City.

    As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Eligible for Registration as a Certified RegisteredSafety Professional Preferred.
  • Three plus (3+) Years' work experience in anorganization where safety is a significant focus providing expertise in safetycommittee work, development of safety policy and procedure, and knowledge infacility operations (e.g. equipment, ventilation, lighting and other conditionsand materials in the workplace that could affect employee health and safety).
  • Work experience in anelectrical utility/construction role where safety is a significant focus wouldbe an asset.
  • Certified Peer Auditor Certification with AMHSA.
  • Experience in providing guidance with hazardassessments, incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Construction experience would be asset.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta Driver's License.
  • Thorough understanding of provincial OccupationalHealth and Safety legislation.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to develop data intomanagement information.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with fieldstaff.
  • Demonstrated experience in working autonomously, witha minimum of direction.

    Remuneration:

    $42.94 to $45.20 per hour

    Hours of Work:

    80hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, occasional evening andweekend as required for emergencies.
