The Department of Mathematics has established research groups in several areas of contemporary mathematics, including algebra, geometry, topology, analysis, and noncommutative geometry.

Responsibilities:

Organizing and Developing Camp Material:

  • Collaborate with the camp coordinator to curate and organize camp material, including schedules, handouts, and informational resources.
  • Ensure that all materials align with the camp's objectives and are suitable for the target audience.
  • Work closely with the camp coordinator to develop comprehensive and engaging lesson plans for talks and presentations.

Recruiting Volunteers:


  • Develop a recruitment strategy, considering the specific needs of the camp, for volunteers and attract potential volunteers for from the community.

Coordinating Volunteers and Speakers:


  • Conduct orientation sessions and training for volunteers to ensure they are wellprepared for their roles.
  • Establish effective communication channels between volunteers and speakers.
  • Facilitate preevent meetings to ensure that speakers are wellinformed about the camp's goals and schedule.
  • Address any concerns or questions from both volunteers and speakers promptly.

Collaborating with Administrative Staff:


  • Work closely with administrative staff to manage logístical aspects of the camp, such as venue arrangements, equipment setup, and registration processes.
  • Ensure that administrative tasks, including budgeting and paperwork, are handled efficiently.
  • Act as a point of contact for speakers, providing them with necessary information and addressing their requirements.
  • Coordinate with catering services to plan meals and refreshments, considering dietary restrictions and preferences.

Problem-Solving and Adaptability:


  • Be prepared to address unforeseen challenges or changes in plans during the camp.
  • Implement quick and effective solutions to ensure the smooth flow of activities.

Post-Event Evaluation:


  • Collaborate with the camp coordinator to conduct a postevent evaluation.
  • Gather feedback from participants, volunteers, and speakers to identify areas for improvement and success stories.
  • Help the Camp Coordinator to prepare the camp report.
  • Qualifications
    Education:
  • Community College Diploma OR Undergraduate Degree in a related field

Experience:

  • 1 year of work experience supporting research in a related technical field
  • Police check for vulnerable sector
  • First Aid and CPR training

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Familiarity with experimental design and analysis
  • Detailoriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
  • Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Ability to collect and analyze data in an objective manner
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
