Curriculum Consultant, Career Education
Are you looking for a position that has province-wide impact and influence?
Reporting to the Director, the Curriculum Consultant - Career Education (Curriculum Consultant) supports the development and maintenance of high quality provincial career curriculum, local curriculum and locally developed courses, and careers-based programming.
The Curriculum Consultant supports careers-based curriculum development in alignment with The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum.
Responsibilities include providing expert advice to coordinate the development of career related curriculum, local curriculum and locally developed courses, engaging with a wide range of partners within the ministry and education system, and leading projects or initiatives to support career education programming.
As a member of the Career Education branch, the Curriculum Consultant works in a collaborative team environment to support the delivery of high quality products that meet the needs of students in the K-12 education system.
The Career Consultant demonstrates strong writing, analysis, flexibility, problem solving, project management, organization and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.

Requirements:
A Master's Degree in Education or a related field supplemented by a minimum of five years of related progressively responsible experience is required.
This position requires expert knowledge of:
- Curriculum theory, principles, and processes required to develop Kindergarten to Grade 12 provincial curriculum.
- Curriculum development models and current research regarding trends in curriculum and technology development.
- Department goals and policies that relate to curriculum development and implementation.
- Structures and policies of school authorities with respect to provincial accountability systems and teachers' participation in such tasks as curriculum development.
- Department goals and policies that relate to curriculum development and implementation.
- Valid permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate plus extensive current related teaching and leadership experience at the school, jurisdictional and/or provincial level.
- Strong commitment to excellence and accountability in education.
- Drafting/creating curriculum or other policy.
- Understanding of research on the principles of 21st century learning, the implications for curriculum development and the use of technology in learning and teaching.
- Understanding of First Nations, Métis and Inuit education and perspectives.
- Understanding of Francophone education and perspectives.
- Experience and/or fluency in French language.
- Excellent communication (oral, written, computer literacy) and interpersonal skills.
- Sound project management skills, organizational skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrate initiative, flexibility and strong problem solving skills.
