Job Summary:

The communications officer will play a key role in developing and implementing internal and external communication plans. Support ESB's goals and initiatives to foster and maintain relations between the board, schools and community to increase engagement.

The incumbent will work closely with staff and management in all departments and will be responsible for planning, development and design of promotional and advertising material, writing content of communication materials, managing and maintenance of website and social media platforms.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop internal and external communications plan;
  • Develop written materials including, brochures, reports, newsletters, inclement weather notifications, presentations;
  • Gather information and write content for monthly newsletters;
  • Provide communication support to all schools to increase awareness of its programs and activities;
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with administration, staff and education partners;
  • Engage in activities and programs involving internal and external communications;
  • Manage day to day media relations and social media content;
  • Ensure that all materials are developed and distributed according to an appropriate timelines;
  • Assist in planning and coordinating special events, conferences and announcements;
  • Other day to day communications tasks.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism
  • Experience in the field of communications and public relations
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong project management skills to meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and website management
  • Strong computer skills proficiency with Adobe, Google Workspace and MS Office Suite
  • Photography and videography skills
  • Experience in First Nations communities preferred
  • Ability to speak Mi'kmaq language an asset
