The Innovation, Bioeconomy, and Indigenous Opportunities (IBIO) branch supports the ministry's forest sector innovation and transformation through research, economic analysis, engagement, policy, and program development.

The branch supports projects that transform wood fibre and non-timber forest products into advanced biomaterials, biochemicals, bioplastics, and other products.

These products can replace fossil fuels, decrease waste, store carbon, and support both the low-carbon and circular economies.


This position will lead the new accelerator stream of the Indigenous Forest Bioeconomy Program by providing business case development expertise, market and financial condition assessments, and opportunities to leverage funding from other mechanisms.

The incumbent will also find pathways for advancing the broader bioeconomy through forest sector innovation and diversification.

As the specialist for business development and entrepreneurship in the branch you will have the opportunity to leverage your skills to achieve results in shifting the forest sector from volume to value.


Job Requirements:

  • Degree in business administration or equivalent field plus 3 years cumulative relevant work experience in the following or
  • Combination of education and experience
Related Experience

  • Experience with and knowledge of the bioeconomy and the circular economy on a global level,
  • Contract and procurement experience,
  • Experience working with economic development funding agencies,
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations,

Preference may be given to:

  • Preferred experience working in the natural resource sector.
Willingness statements

  • Must be willing to travel to remote locations around the province.

About this Position:

An eligibility list may be established for permanent or temporary positions.

Position is in Victoria, however, may be available within Ministry of Forest offices throughout BC.


Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week as per the Telework Agreement.
