General Accountability


Reports Directly To:
Director, Engineering (SBU); or Manager, Engineering/Technical Services


Reports Functionally To:
Vice President, Engineering & Quality
Responsible for the coordination, review, maintenance, and revision of all technical configuration documentation within the business unit.

Works with Configuration Control Specialists across other business units to ensure that everyone is working towards the corporate vision of configuration control.

Trains business unit staff in all areas of technical documentation and engine configuration.

  • Recognizes and understands flight/product safety critical parts and processes.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting flight/product safety concerns.
  • Participates in proactive risk analysis of flight/product safety critical parts and processes.
  • Recognizes and understands the Just Culture policy.
Specific Accountabilities

  • Reviews new Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technical documents and defines impact to: applicable overhaul manuals, service bulletins, parts lists, Bill of Materials (BOM), BOM-Cross reference, alternate part master file, and Unit Build Standards (UBS).
  • Coordinates the review of technical documents with engineering staff and amends applicable current company documentation including: BOM, shop orders, CNC Programs, Company Processes (CPs), and Matrix routings that may also lead to Temporary Overhaul Data Revision (TODR) and Temporary Parts List Revision (TPLR) amendments.
  • Responsible for the ongoing updating of the Matrix (remanufacturing) routing system.
  • Incorporates input from engineers, technicians, and customer service personnel to determine appropriate costs for Rework Option Codes (ROC) during the creation and modification to labour, material, shop supplies, etc.
  • Provides applicable Measures of Performance (MOPs) related to technical configuration documentation to the Director, Engineering (SBU) and/or the Director, Quality Improvement (SBU).
  • Responsible for creating and mastering Production Management System (PMS) part numbers, PMS routing generation/revision, PMS master bill maintenance, and routing approval.
  • Owns and maintains master files for: ROC, model codes, process type, PMS unit code, work centre, machine code, and PMS part code.
  • Maintains accountability for the SBU format of bill of materials (BOM) and all subsequent changes.
  • Resolves minor changes to UBS and initiates major changes for engineering approval.
  • Responsible for maintaining the central filing system for technical documentation and engineering reports within the business unit.
  • Collaborates with process engineering to facilitate appropriate routing for new repairs, including electronically registering First Article Inspections (FAI) into Matrix shop orders.
  • Meets with Configuration Control Specialists from other business units to facilitate and develop a consistent corporate vision of configuration control.
  • Provides training and guidance to business unit staff regarding all areas of technical documentation.
  • Maintains and distributes documentation system training packages for the business unit.
  • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Carries out special projects as assigned.
Technical Requirements

  • Strong organizational, analytical, decision making, leadership, interpersonal, planning, oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of PC's in the current company operating system environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of records management and documentation control.
  • Thorough knowledge of company instructions, company processes, unit build standards, temporary overhaul data revisions, and original equipment manufacturer's manuals.
  • Through knowledge of the Standard Aero electronic system and process flows.
  • College diploma in a field of engineering technology; or an equivalent of several years of experience in an inspection role associated with technical documentation.
Background Information

The typical minimum level of education to perform this job competently is equivalent to high school graduation and completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school.

The person requires an ability to understand, utilize and communicate specialized information in speech and written text. This specialized training is often formalized and recognized by a specific certificate, diploma or license.

Directly/indirectly related work experience representing continuous learning and required for someone to perform this job competently is one to three years.

Ongoing work assignments typically have clearly defined goals, but no (or mínimal) direction with respect to what action steps to follow.
