As a
Youth Care Worker at our youth therapeutic program located
in
Burnaby
you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that provides support, care, and mentorship to at-risk youth with complex mental health and behavioural challenges.

You would be supporting a vulnerable youth experiencing substance misuse, as well as involvement in the downtown East Side.

This is a unique position as you would be providing continuous care creating support and stability for the youth you are working with, as you will be at the program for 3 consecutive days allowing you to build relationships with the youth and staff team.

Specific training and knowledge regarding working with high-risk youth experiencing substance misuse as well as involvement in the downtown East Side would be beneficial to this position.

Having an understanding of youth advocacy along with conducting outreach are beneficial.

Understanding Indigenous culture, practices, and history, along with working within the LGBTQIA2S+ community is a bonus, as you will be working with a Transgendered, 2 Spirited Indigenous youth.

This line is 40 hours/week, Wednesday-Friday, 24-hour shifts (generally from 10am-10am)
which means
you will have 4 days off each week.



Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in related field and/or equivalent experience working with atrisk youth
  • Experience working with atrisk youth with complex mental health, behavioural challenges, and substance use
  • Clear, direct, and sensitive verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum Class 7N BC Driver's License (Class 5 preferred)
  • Current First Aid/CPR training
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or MANDT Training
  • Current Naloxone training (or be willing to complete training we provide)
  • Proof of COVID19 double vaccination record or exemption from the provincial health authority

A sample of what you'll be doing:

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home
  • Building positive working relationships with the youth, their families, community members, and other professionals (e.g. social workers, probation officers)
  • Facilitating recreational and/or educational activities
  • Attending school meetings and case conferences when required
  • Encouraging and modeling acceptable social standards and setting and maintaining appropriate limits
  • Collaborating with the clinical team and providing input into assessments and youth care plans
  • Performing household maintenance duties, preparing meals, administering medication

Salary:
$22.70-$24.00/hour plus benefits
