  • Enrolled in Environmental Sciences or Environmental or Civil Engineering post-secondary co-op (or internship) program at a recognized Canadian university.
  • Have Excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly and concisely, using appropriate technical vocabulary.
  • Hold a valid Class driver's license.
  • Experience with GIS software and project management would be considered an asset.

  • What you get to do:

    Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, Remediation with the Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environment Team at ATCO Electric, this co-op position is responsible for assisting with contaminated sites and reclamation project management as well as environmental governance tasks. This position will support the prevention, management and mitigation of environmental impacts associated with ATCO Electric's operations, assist in management of budgets, schedules and consultants as well as complete corporate and regulatory reporting requirements focused on environmental site assessment, remediation and reclamation work. It will involve interaction with the Lands and Project Management Departments as well as other teams in the Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environment Department.

    Responsibility Area – Assessment, Remediation and Reclamation

  • Assist with tendering contracts for, and provide administrative and technical review, of Phase and Environmental Site Assessments and remediation and reclamation reports.
  • Assist with program management for ATCO's substation remediation program.
  • Assist with management of consultants and contractors to ensure environmental work and reporting is completed on time and on budget in support of meeting regulatory requirements and company policy.
  • Assist in the preparation request for proposal documents and provide technical and financial evaluations on contractor bid submissions.
  • Provide scheduling and cost estimates for assessment and remediation projects for the group and to support business cases and other groups in the company.
  • Conduct information searches on environmental matters.
  • Participate in project and team meetings and ensure open and effective communication between the Environment Group and the groups they support within the company.

  • Assist in developing and implementing Environmental Management System documents and policies.
  • Stay current in government and industry standards and changes and ensure corporate compliance.
