Position Overview

CHALLENGES AWAITING YOU

The Anesthesia Assistant (AA) provides specialized, high quality, patient focused health care services as it relates to adult, pediatric and neonatal patients.

The AA assists the Anesthesiologist in the delivery of general anesthesia for elective/emergent surgery patients.

In addition to providing technical support to the anesthesiologist for complex anesthesia equipment, the AA administers medications, performs activities such as the provision of moderate ("conscious") sedation and is responsible for the insertion of intravenous and management of arterial lines.

The AA provides constant assessment and evaluative monitoring of the depth of anesthesia using orders and medical directives as applicable.

AAs provide direct patient care before, during and after anesthesia to ensure continuity of care and quality. The person will also act as a Respiratory Therapist if required.

Criminal Check

As a pre-condition of employment:

  • All new HGH employees will be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory Police Records Check dated within six (6) months from the date of issue.
  • As of now, HGH will require all employees, physicians, learners, contractors and volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID19.

What we are looking for

  • College Diploma as a Respiratory Therapy and current General Certificate from the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario without any terms, conditions or limitations.
  • Completion of accredited Anesthesia Assistant Program
  • Minimum 3 years working as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Two (2) years experience of multiservice operating room experience with the last two (2) years in the role of anesthesia assistant, preferred
  • Current WHIMIS, BCLS, ACLS & NRP (mandatory).
  • Current PALS (optional)
  • Knowledge of current anesthesiology principles and practices, as well as agents, equipment, procedures and techniques for the provision of anesthesia to patients
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work and focus in highly stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated computer skills; ability to operate computer interfaced equipment.
  • Customer service orientated approach
  • Effective communication in both usual language, French and English.
