    Description

    Main Purpose and Function

    The City of Vancouver has been recognized throughout North America for innovation in sustainable rainwater management infrastructure, otherwise known as green rainwater infrastructure. The Green Infrastructure Designer will be part of a high-functioning team that prepares green rainwater infrastructure designs and construction drawings for the City of Vancouver's stormwater management projects. The successful candidates will have a focus on drafting and drawing production, but they may also occasionally undertake other duties including field work, research, and administrative tasks as needed.

    Reporting to the Senior Green Infrastructure Engineer and Project Manager, the EA III Auxiliary Green Infrastructure Drafter will work in close collaboration with engineers, landscape architects, planners, and horticulturists to create world-class designs.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    Under supervision of the Senior Green Infrastructure Engineer and Senior Project Manager, the successful candidate will:

  • Develop conceptual, intermediate, and final designs of moderate or higher complexity using AutoCAD
  • Create plan sets for various project stages including issue for final construction and post-construction record drawings using AutoCAD
  • Prepare construction specifications and contract packages
  • Communicates with engineers and senior staff to develop designs according to design standards and engineering principles.
  • Prepares research, technical studies, reports and presentations on topics of moderate complexity, including undertaking relevant field observations and notes and verifying accuracy of the content.
  • May act as a technical liaison to partner groups, such as Streets Design, Transportation Design, and other Engineering Services Branches.
  • Supports the development and enhancement of City design guidelines, drafting standards and overall design consistency; may take on specific assignments related to the research and development of detailed design guidelines and/or standards.
  • Performs general administrative duties including data entry, taking meeting minutes, taking and organizing photos.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented with post-secondary education in engineering technology, landscape architecture, construction or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Related experience in the production of construction drawings is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Moderate to highly skilled in AutoCAD with practical experience preparing AutoCAD construction drawings is required (Applicants will be tested).
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, including an understanding of the components of typical construction plan sets and packages.
  • Working knowledge of grading and drainage design and the principles of green infrastructure rainwater management is an asset.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, with little or no supervision, under tight deadlines, and sometimes outdoors in increment weather.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with staff and external contacts.
  • A valid BC Driver's License is an asset.
