Reporting to the Manager Health Information Management/Patient Resources, the incumbent will be responsible for releasing patient information to Legal Counsel, Insurance Companies, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Health Care Facilities, Physicians, Patients and others.

Promotes positive public relations with patients, physicians, staff, and outside agencies requiring health record information. Responds to all Release of Information requests following current legislation, i.e., Public Hospital's Act, PHIPA and established hospital policies. Submits all generated revenue for Release of Information to Financial Services.

Is knowledgeable and complies with policies and procedures related to medical legal matters, amendment of medical records, release of information, patients' rights, and informed consent etc.

Accept subpoenas for patient charts, prepares documents for court attendance and submit the chart as evidence on the date of court attendance.

Maintains the correspondence log and the security of a health record when it has been identified that litigation is pending.

Travel between sites may be required.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduate from an approved Health Information Management/Administrator Program
  • One year recent experience in ICD10CA inpatient and NACRS coding
  • Current active CHIMA member in good standing and maintained on an annual basis
  • Demonstrates a proficient level of understanding with regard to Case Mix Methodology
Demonstrated ability to handle a large and diversified workload with often rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines

  • Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care
  • Compliance with confidential requirements under the Niagara Health System Privacy Policy
  • Demonstrated professional and informative attitude while interacting with the public, patients, employees and medical staff
  • Strong organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy
  • Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays
  • Travel to other NH sites required
  • Consistent and regular attendance required
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
  • Full vaccination in accordance with Niagara Health's Vaccination Policy
