As a Crew Leader, Cemetery Operations, you will showcase your leadership and team development skills through a cohesive and integrated process.
You will be responsible to:
- Provide handson field level supervision to staff performing a wide variety of tasks which include interments, disinterments, monument installations, restoration landscaping/beautification, horticulture, and turf maintenance
- Assist Team Leader in the development and execution of work plans and training programs
- Prioritize and coordinate the maintenance and operations of various cemetery parkland locations
- Develop collaborative teams through coaching, training, and staff development
- Build effective working relationships while managing staff performance and schedule adherence
- Work with several internal and external stakeholders which include corporate/department staff, funeral directors, funeral homes, and monument dealers
- Promote a safe working environment for all staff, following Occupational Health and Safety/Environmental standards
- Have working knowledge and clearly communicate City of Edmonton bylaws, policies, health and safety regulations, and government legislation
- Read surveyed grades and design blueprints, ensuring accurate locations of construction points Provide quality customer service to cemetery patrons and grieving families, and address service delivery concerns in coordination with the cemetery sales office
- Understand various cultural/religious group traditions and burial practices
- Attend departmental meetings as required
- Conduct regular team meetings including safety talks/inspections
- Perform Team Leader responsibilities when required
Qualifications:
- 2year Diploma program in Turf/Horticulture/Landscaping Management or related discipline
- 3 years of progressive experience in a cemetery/parks operations, turf/horticulture, or a landscape maintenance environment
- Demonstrated supervisory skills, including training and coaching staff; leadership training is required
- Demonstrated ability to enhance and improve team development and service delivery to all stakeholders
- Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner, especially in sensitive situations
- Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Ability to adapt to change quickly and effectively manage emergent concerns
- Strong analysis and mathematical skills to support budgeting processes
- Current Intermediate First Aid is a requirement of this position prior to a start date
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position. Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business

- Heavy Equipment Certificates (Skid Steer, Backhoe, etc) or commitment to complete within a mutually agreed time frame

Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Rotating Weekend On-Call Rotation is required
