    MANAGER OF FLEET SERVICES



    Permanent Full Time
    The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced operations Manager to lead its Fleet Services Team.

    Fleet Services is responsible for all aspects of the operation, planning, and compliance of the municipal fleet assets and a provincially regulated Preventative Maintenance Facility.

    The successful candidate will manage a multi-trade workforce engaged in maintenance and repair of municipal assets, repair services and will participate in the procurement of municipal assets.

    As a municipal leader in sustainability and climate action, the Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring innovative and cost-effective zero emissions fleet strategies to achieve our corporate GHG goals.

    This includes reducing corporate GHG emissions from the existing internal combustion engine fleet; strategically evaluating the benefits and managing operational risks associated with emerging electric vehicle (EV) technology; collaborating with sustainability stakeholders to leverage external grant funding, advancing sustainable fleet maintenance management systems; and applying industry best practice.

    The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of principles, methods, equipment, and tools of the automotive and heavy-duty mechanical trade, particularly as related to the maintenance and repair of a mixed municipal fleet, including the adoption of EV technologies.

    They will have knowledge of occupational health and safety standards and practices, preferably in the public sector.

    They will be an innovator with a commitment to lifelong learning, organizational excellence, and knowledge development and have demonstrated ability to lead and supervise employees in a unionized environment.

    They will be a critical thinker with superior interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, including the ability to cost estimate and work within planned performance budget systems.

    The Manager is a dynamic individual that can think quickly and creatively in emergencies while maintaining their demeanour; has exceptional interpersonal skills; is detailed oriented and organized; and is a positive leader who develops teamwork and collaboration between operational sections and engineering design teams.

    Requirements include a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field, including technical courses related to the work and formal management training; registration as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) or as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Licensee Engineering (P.L.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC); possession of or ability to obtain and maintain the British Columbia Inspection Facility Operator Certification and Vehicle Inspection Facility Designation Permit; a minimum of six (6) years of progressive managerial or supervisory experience in managing a fleet maintenance facility/programs, including experience in the development and implementation of a fleet maintenance program including related EV initiatives; and a valid B.C.

    Class 5 Driver's Licence. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
