Job Description:

As Maintenance Helper, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of production equipment and facilities.

You will be involved in a variety of activities, including equipment calibration, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and the repair of manufacturing tools.


As a member of our team, your responsibilities include:

  • Comply with all applicable health and safety principles, procedures, policies and company safety program.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on power tools, machinery, and other equipment.
  • Repair or replace defective machinery parts.
  • Ensure safetyrelated issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting equipment.
  • Provide support in scheduling facility equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot problems related to aspects of facility equipment.
  • Record all equipment repairs and maintain an inventory log for all facility equipment.
  • Complete daily tasks as directed by the Production Superintendent.

Qualifications:


  • Two to three years related experience and/or training in a similar position in the manufacturing industry or technical trades.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficient English speaking, reading and writing skills.
  • Valid class 5 Alberta driver's license.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of CNC machines considered an asset.
  • Work well independently, with mínimal supervision.
  • Basic knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge in the following categories: air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems, and controls, machine operation, vehicles, energy conservation, and/or general building.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Punctuality, maturity, reliability, and strong work ethic.
  • Availability to work overtime is an asset.

Physical Demands:

The ability to stand continuously is essential, with frequent walking and occasional sitting.

The nature of the position will require the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects, to climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling.

Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.


Work Environment:

Working safely is a condition of employment at Canam. Constant exposure to a steel fabrication environment and regular exposure to weather conditions, excessive noise levels and vibrations. Often works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes and airborne particles. Occasionally works in high, precarious positions.


Potential burn hazards such as:
UV light radiation, open flames, sparks and other sources. Noise levels in the work environment will require the use of appropriate hearing protection. The correct usage of PPE will be required at all times.
This is a safety-sensitive position.
