Summary:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the position promotes a safe environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.


Reporting to the Chief of Professional Practice and Nursing and working in collaboration with Program Directors, Operations Leaders, and Physician Leaders, the Professional Practice Leader is accountable for the overall delivery of professional, clinical and academic Clinical Nutrition services across multiple sites consistent with the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of Providence Health Care and for fostering interdisciplinary approaches to patient/resident care.

The position has operational responsibility for a pool of human and material resources as designated.


Qualifications / Skills and Education:
Education

Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition plus successful completion of an accredited internship program and six (6) years related leadership experience in a health care setting, including previous three (3) years supervisory experience in an extensive and complex environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans, implements and evaluates Clinical Nutrition services for PHC in conjunction with Program Directors to ensure delivery of a continuum of integrated care.


Collaborates with the Food Services contractor, PHC Contract Manager, and PHC clinical dietitians to ensure Nutrition Standards and Quality Standards for Food Services as they relate to Clinical Nutrition are met.


Participates in the overall administration of the Clinical Nutrition service by performing duties such as establishing and maintaining job descriptions for Clinical Nutrition, establishing and monitoring staffing guidelines and providing information for new services.

Contributes to operating and capital proposals including identifying, documenting and making recommendations to the Program Directors regarding a variety of issues such as operating budget, workload, staff resources, minor and capital equipment purchases and space re-allocations.


Directly or in conjunction with designated leaders, supervises staff through methods such as reviewing workload assignments and directing the organization about adjusting schedules according to workload to ensure that staff levels meet operational requirements; evaluates staff performance and provides direction regarding professional competence and required training requirements.

Establishes priorities and provides guidance and clinical advice through methods such as facilitating resolutions to work issues and monitoring operations/clinical activities to ensure professional standards and safety procedures are followed.


Leads staff within Clinical Nutrition through methods such as establishing priorities and providing guidance and advice on professional development/skills through methods such as mentoring and coaching staff and planning, implementing and evaluating orientation, continuing education and development needs directly or in conjunction with designated leaders.


Develops, maintains, and evaluates the Clinical Nutrition human resources plan including role expectations, specialized credentials, skill requirements to support effective and efficient service delivery.

Recruits staff through methods such as identifying vacancies, processing required internal paperwork, interviewing applicants, and selecting staff directly or in conjunction with designated leaders to maintain approved staff complement.
