    Grizzly Bear Refuge Interpretive Guide

    Grizzly Bear Refuge(GBR) Interpretive Guides conduct guided public tours of the Kicking HorseGrizzly Bear Refuge contributing to the education and enlightenment of thegeneral public about grizzly bear biology and behaviour. Interpretive Guides also assist the GBRManager and Shift Leads in maintaining the well-being of the Boo, the grizzly bearand his habitat, greet and engage with guests, and enforce safety measures forvisitors and staff.

    You will:

    · Conduct interpretive tours for the public about grizzly bearbiology, behaviour, the history of GBR, and human-wildlife coexistenceinitiatives. Special tours of a similar nature may also be required for schoolgroups and other private groups.

    · Assist the GBR Manager and Shift Leads in providing care for Boo,the grizzly bear, through the provision of food, water, hygiene, psychologicalenrichment, surveys, and habitat improvement.

    · Maintain database of bear behaviour, habitat statistics,procedural matters, and other factors so it is accessible for GBR staff, KHMRmanagement, and provincial officials.

    · Greet guests coming to the Grizzly Bear Refuge via the CatamountMid Station.

    · Perform daily perimeter checks around the habitat.

    · Ensure that all applicable wildlife protocols, procedures, andregulations are followed.

    · Other duties as required.

    You have:

    · Previousexperience in the area of public education program delivery or wildlife care

    · Demonstratedability to interact effectively with the public and communicate in and engagingand knowledgeable manner

    · Passion forconservation, wildlife management, and/or ideals of the Refuge

    · Class 5 Driver'sLicence

    · Previousexperience using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

    · Post secondarydegree, certificate or diploma in Biology or related discipline-an asset.

    · Previousexperience working directly with wildlife or wildlife program-an asset.

    · Specificknowledge of bear biology-an asset

    Working Conditions:

    · Must be able to work flexible shifts. Weekend work required.

    · Primarily outdoor work in all-weather mountain conditions.

    · Limited but occasional office work.

    · Manual labour at the refuge including lifting, shovelling, raking,pruning, brushing, and fence maintenance.

    · Must be physically capable of performing manual labour, standingfor prolonged periods, walking over rough terrain, interacting with wildlife,and working in all weather conditions.

    · Possible exposure to severe mountain weather conditions forextended periods of time (heat, rain, insects, wind, cold, snow, etc.).
