Description

NATURE OF WORK

The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class involves carrying out the upkeep and physical and preventive maintenance work of the grounds, buildings, classrooms, offices and equipment in addition to minor repair work. It also involves the handling and transportation of merchandise, furniture and other material.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform tasks aimed at ensuring the cleanliness of the premises and that equipment is in good working order

This includes the following:

Sweeping, vacuuming, washing, cleaning and waxing, as needed, of walls, ceilings, all types of flooring, furniture, ventilation grills, equipment, and windows of the various premises including classrooms, laboratory, sports equipment rooms, washrooms, mechanical and electrical rooms;
Moving furniture, handling and transporting stored goods and materials;
Preparing spaces for academic purposes and special events;
Collecting and disposing of rubbish, both inside and outside;
Outside mowing the lawn; spreading fertilizer; gathering and disposing of dead leaves; removing snow from roofs, entrances and sidewalks; sanding and salting (winter);
Replacing light bulbs and fluorescent lights;
Performing any minor repair, assembly and dismantle work (such as, but not limited to, scaffoldings and winter shelters);
Occasionally helping qualified workmen by handling heavy objects and materials; holding parts in a specific position; cleaning and providing the required tools;
Operating required equipment such as waxing machine, washing machine, dryer, domestic snowplow, lawn mower and leaf blower;
Using basic tools, as required, to complete tasks;
Performing other related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
No specific qualifications are required.

CONDITIONS

Basic verbal communication skills in English and/or French (testing may be required);
Ability to work well with others;
Ability to handle heavy objects and materials.
