    About The Company

    Momiji Health Care Society is a non-profit organization providing services to seniors primarily of Japanese-Canadian descent, in an effort to maximize their independence, health, and quality of life.

    We are currently seeking 2 dedicated and enthusiastic youth to join us in the role of Activity Assistant for seniors for the summer. We're thrilled to announce that we've received funding support from the 2024 Canada Summer Jobs Program, a government program that helps Employers create jobs for young Canadians across the country. Consequently, there are vital criteria that applicants must meet to be considered for this position. Please review the following carefully before applying:

    • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age;
    • Legally entitled to work in Canada (which means you must have a valid Social Insurance Number)

    About the Role

    The Activity Assistant will assist in the planning and implementing of the senior's programs contributing to improved physical, social, emotional and intellectual health and wellness.

    Key Activities Include:

    • Provide programming and administrative support to our Seniors' Active Living Centre (SALC) staff and volunteers, with a full calendar of activity programs for seniors with different interests and ability levels, while maintaining all mandated IPAC procedures.
    • Assist staff with the implementation of virtual online programs, and when needed, help seniors to access them.
    • Provide one-on-one friendly visits and to seniors, and with the support and supervision of experienced staff, work closely with those seniors with cognitive impairment.
    • Plan, prepare and implement one or more special events for seniors.
    • Assist with developing online and print promotional materials
    • Create special events flyers, design bulletin board displays
    • Assist in keeping and maintaining SALC workspace and general cleanliness
    • Other related duties as assigned.

    Skills & Abilities Required:

    • Enthusiastic team player with good communication skills
    • Strong organization and time management skills
    • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, are essential
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products
    • Knowledge and understanding of Japanese Canadian culture is an asset
    • Experience and interest in working/volunteering with seniors is a strong asset

    Qualifications:

    • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Activation, Gerontology, Health Care, Social Work, or related fields at a recognized University or College.

    Good to Know:

    • This position is for the summer with an anticipated start date within the month of May
    • 500 total hours – 35 hours/week
    • $17.75/hour
