Role and Facility Information:

Providence Health Care (PHC), in Vancouver, is seeking a General Internal Medicine physician for a minimum expectation of 28 weeks of service per year across its two acute care hospitals to start in October 2023, though there may be ad-hoc opportunities for temporary or provisional work earlier depending on availability.

This position bridges two of PHC's acute facilities, Mount St. Joseph Hospital (MSJ) and St. Paul's Hospital (SPH).

MSJ is a PHC acute care facility in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Vancouver, with 200 beds and serves a diverse population.

SPH is a 500 bed clinical academic teaching hospital in downtown Vancouver.
Position Summary

This PHC Internal Medicine role has a base minimum commitment of 28/52 weeks per year spread across both sites (22/52 at MSJ and minimum 6/52 at SPH).

MSJ is the anchor site for this PHC IM role. This physician joins a cohesive team of Internists engaged in quality patient care and teaching. While students and residents are not always present, there is an opportunity to pursue further academic and teaching interests. There is an opportunity to participate in outpatient clinic work at MSJ as well.
The General Internal Medicine role will involve the following:


  • At MSJ:
  • MSJ general internal medicine inpatient ward work, usually a Monday to Friday schedule, and can choose to do weekends.
a.

MSJ IM Core Quarter Time (22/52 weeks) base commitment:

i. Flexible scheduling.
ii. MSJ IM Core members have priority access to the weekday schedule, weekday blocks.
iii. Weekend work included, flexibility.
iv.

MSJ Core IM ultimately covers any gaps in scheduling including holiday coverage, weekend rounding and call, and sick coverage with equitable holiday/March break/summer coverage across the years.


  • MSJ general internal medicine rapid access clinic work, optional (no overhead) - weekday blocks.

MSJ compensation:
a


Wards:
fee for service, income stabilization for ward rounding, MOCAP for call.
b


Clinic:
exclusively fee-for-service.

  • MSJ teaching expectation.
a. Learners may or may not be present.
b. All MSJ IM Core staff to have a clinical appointment with UBC.

  • Participation in q2monthly MSJ IM Core meetings and M&Ms.
  • Participation in MSJ QI work and MD feedback.
  • Participation in projects to benefit the MSJ IM Core group - may take lead on project work.
  • Leadership interest at MSJ or across both MSJ and SPH an asset.
  • At SPH:
  • SPH IM work 6/52 weeks base commitment, welcome to pick up more at SPH as desired.
a. Generally, APP-funded resident-independent service.
b. Participation in SPH-based IM staff expectations.
