About Us:


The Thermal Spray and Surface Engineering Research Centre focuses on developing new solutions to the high demand of the industry for advanced coatings with improved resistance to degrading environmental factors such as high temperature, wear, corrosion and erosion, often under severe service conditions.


Roles and responsibilities:

The Research Associate (RA) will join an ongoing research project supported financially by the CRIAQ and NSERC.

This project aims to develop an improved bondcoat layer to increase the performance and durability of thermal barrier coatings while reducing the manufacturing costs.

In this project, we take advantage of the unique characteristics of the High-Velocity Air Fuel (HVAF) deposition process to optimize the structure and roughness of the bondcoat layers while optimizing their resistance to oxidation.


In particular, the selected RA will:

  • Run CFD models of the HVAF process, develop the appropriate mesh and run simulations in several spray conditions;
  • Support and interact with PhD and MASc students involved in the project;
  • Communicate CFD results and interpretations to the project participants during monthly
- meetings;

  • Draft and review journal articles related to the original findings develop in the project;
  • Draft and review reports to the granting agencies and industrial partners.

Qualifications:

- projects

  • Solid experience in modelling thermal spray deposition processes and, in particular, combustion
- processes such as HVOF or HVAF.

  • Solid organizational skills and ability to handle multiple inquiries
  • Ability to operate effectively with students, professors, industrial professionals
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Highly developed sense of professionalism and ethics
given priority.


Advantages:


  • Hourly wage ranging from $26.68 to $36.94 according to education and experience
  • Normal working hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (flexible)
  • Hybrid work (in person 3 days and from distance 2 days)
